Independent Learning Project

Things I am feeling challenged but excited!  Reading more into everything that comes a long with an independent learning project has me pretty excited.  For my project I decided to do baking, I already know how to do the simple things but I want to learn and create the more challenging baked goods.  I decided to do baking because my grandmother always made the best baked goods and I have always wanted to be able to bake like her.  So I here I am with a bunch of her recipes ready to dive in and make it happen.

My independent learning project is going to focus on my becoming an amazing baker.  I want to become an amazing baker just like my grandmas was.  She always had some sort of baked goods whether it be something as simple as cookies or as extravagant as a souffle.  This is something I am fully prepared to fail at first, the only baked good I really make is cake and cookies and that isn’t very challenging.  With my failures I hope to find some success and achievement from my trial and error experiences.  No more baking out of a box I am ready to start the process of becoming amazing at making baked goods from scratch.  I am tired of baked goods with a lot of calories but not the best flavor, I am ready for homemade baked goods that are worth all the calories.

I am pretty excited about this project, because for one I love baked goods.  I also love learning new things and sharing them with others.  Whether it be learning how to be an amazing baker and sharing what I make with family or sharing what I bake with friends at a get together.  I do have one thing I am a little nervous about, which would be getting frustrated.  At times when things get challenging I get frustrated and I am ready to give up.  I am going to have to push through the frustration and the challenges that I have coming my way to become an amazing baker.

Overall I am extremely excited about this project.  I love baked goods so why not learn to make them right?  The only down side that I can think of is becoming amazing at a baking and watching my waistline increase.  That being said I will most definitely need to have a lot of self control when becoming an amazing baker.  Here is to an exciting new adventure!

  1. I think baking is a great idea. I too love to bake but I just don’t have the time for it. I think I am fairly decent at it, as I choose to do everything from scratch. I think I have only made a handful of things from a box but they don’t taste the same. Baking can be fun, I love being able to say that I made it myself and watching the satisfied looks on people’s faces when they taste it and see how good it really is. I made a chocolate cake this summer from scratch and I also made the frosting from scratch and I basically couldn’t put it down, but it was worth it. The only thing I hate about baking is the clean up at the end, especially with homemade dishes. You use so much more stuff than you would with the premixed box, so there is so much more clean up and I tend to get pretty messy with it because I am clumsy and somehow flour always ends up everywhere.
I wish you the best of luck with this adventure and if you need a taste tester, I love sugary foods!

    1. Thank you, I am hoping to become a better baker the only thing I really make from scratch is cookies and I want that to change. The clean up process will definitely be the worst part, because making things from scratch ends up using a lot of dishes that you have to clean. I also love sugary foods so I hope I become a great baker. 🙂

  2. Hi! I really enjoyed reading your blog. I too did my independent learning project on baking. I think baking is a great thing to learn more about. I can’t wait to see what I learn. I love to bake because I think it is so relaxing. Plus after you get to try your baked goods out which is the best part. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts.

  3. Baking sounds amazing! I don’t bake to often but that is mainly because i’m not too good at it! Like cooking, I bet baking takes a couple tries before you get it just right. I think it is nice that your grandmother baked as well, maybe you will even surpass her! Hopefully you don’t make too much of a mess during your independent learning project!

  4. Kate, I am so happy that someone is brave enough to try baking because I am terrible at it! I have always enjoyed cooking, and, of course, I wish that I could be a baker, too. I have tried to bake, and I have been successful a small number of times, but I always end up making some sort of mistake because the measurements have to be so precise, and that is something that I struggle with! I wish you the best of luck, though, and I am sure you’ll have more success than I have. What is your favorite thing to bake?

  5. That is so great that you want to be a great baker like your grandmother. What a great inspiration to have. My project is similar, it is going to be cooking. So I can relate to you when you say you expect to fail at first! haha! Great post!

  6. Hi Katherine! I too love to bake! Baking is definitely fun for me, it is also a stress reliever. It seems to me that many people are choosing this as their LIP! I also hate the cleaning up part afterwards but it is so worth it. Best of luck to you!

  7. I think that baking is such a good idea! If you ever need a taste tester, please feel free to let me know! Baking is so much fun, and I think that you’re really going to enjoy. The best part for me, is being able to share delicious goods with my friends and family, and having them love what I have made. Best of luck to you on this journey!

  8. I am also doing baking. It’s something that definitely isn’t my strong suit but I’m ready to give it a go! I don’t mind baking things from boxes because it’s easy and doesn’t take too much time or effort. Baking from scratch is on a whole new level for me. I tried making a banana cake and good news, no one threw up! 😉 I did have quite a bit of help making it but since it was my “first attempt” I figured it wouldn’t hurt. Now that I somewhat have the ropes I can’t wait to try something else and “hopefully” get a good result like last time. Good luck with your baking experiences!

    1. I wish you the best of luck on baking, it can be stressful but it will be so worth it in the end. Baking from boxes is definitely easy, but it tastes so much better when you make it from scratch. Good luck with the rest of your baking I can’t wait to hear about it!
